´OUTSIDERS IN´
An exhibition of art to celebrate the perennial Outsider.
On the eve of Nuart Festival we’re proud to present an international group exhibition of art to celebrate the perennial Outsider which will be Norways largest. Tracing the lineage from Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Barry McGee to Stavangers finest Oustiders today, the show spans over three generations.
Launching on Sept 3rd at Skur 2, Reed Projects Gallery have invited an exciting international roster of artists to present work alongside pieces drawn from the Nuart Collection, the exhibition will be presented at the beautifully purpose built art gallery, Skur 2 on Skansenkaien in Stavanger, Norway.
Outsiders In features over 30 international artists who have been key to Street and urban arts development for over a decade. It shows urban artists who are equally at home tackling antiquated etching techniques, watercolours, collage, drawing, photography, film and oil painting as they are with a marker and spray can. As likely to be found hunched over a lithe stone in a dank basement studio as they are scaling trackside fences, “Street” artists have, over the years, explored and mastered crafts not popular in contemporary fine art practice for generations.
The exhibited artists are far from being a homogeneous group, they span three generations, and geographically, the globe. However, what they do have in common is a shared desire to take visual art and inject it directly into the veins of our communities, into the streets and into the mainstream.
Outsiders In is the country’s first private group show dedicated to this dynamic young movement and alongside the internationally acclaimed NuartFestival, places Stavanger, if not at the leading edge of a new direction in visual art history, then at least in the game.
The exhibited works are drawn from Reed Projects private collection (Museum) as well as primary works produced exclusively for the show (Contemporary Art Exhibition), in addition we have sourced and commissioned numerous smaller works for sale (Urban Boutique).
