Released in support of his museum exhibition ‘Saints & Shepherds’ at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Initially only available for in-person sales at the museum’s gift shop, now that the opening week of the show has passed, we are issuing the remaining copies online so that fans around the world can have a chance to complete their set.

There is great power in a group of people collaborating, which can be observed in the sustained appeal of the artist portfolio. In the ideal case, the collective effort becomes greater than the simple sum of its parts. The works of D.P.P.F.U. (Dear Printer Print For Us) have all been created especially by the participating artists for this folder, over the course of the summer of 2021. Some of the works needed especially handmade paper (by master papermaker Gangolf Ulbricht), for others pigment took the longest deliberation. Some were technically complex to accomplish, all have resulted in artworks which are inherently part of the individual artists’ practise, while assuming their part within the whole of the portfolio.
Intellectual or artistic kinship, but also differences of dealing with given parameters such as format and technique can be highlighted and studied best by allowing the viewer to look at the artworks side by side. As Larissa Kikol writes in the accompanying text: And yet, it is precisely by means of a portfolio of prints such as this one, that it becomes clearest how the lines differ from one author to the next. The longer you look at them, the more distinctive they become. A line by Schröder is as different as one by Breunig, a stroke by Butzer as fundamentally varied as a stroke by Ostrowski. In this way, the collection of prints can be examined, read and felt.
