RASHID JOHNSON
Phaidon and Artspace are pleased to announce a new limited-edition etching by pioneering artist Rashid Johnson, released on the occasion of Johnsonâs new Contemporary Artist Series monograph. Each signed and numbered etching is sold with a hardcover copy of the new CAS book and comes in a bespoke portfolio case.
Untitled Anxious Print (2023) joins the artistâs iconic Anxious Men series, which debuted with a landmark 2015 exhibition of works on paper at New Yorkâs Drawing Center. This series launched a persevering visual lexicon that has since been incorporated throughout the artistâs practice, including large-scale mosaic installations at the Metropolitan Opera and LaGuardia Airport in New York.
Johnsonâs Anxious Men have become a universally accessible representation of myriad personal and collective anxieties. As noted by Antwaun Sargent in a recent interview with Johnson for GQ, âThese are works of angst and joy, alienation and unity; they remind us, as we pass through these iconic public spaces, that we are at least alone together.â

Recognized as one of the major voices of his generation, Johnson has created a nuanced and iconographic body of work influenced by art, literature, and critical theory that spans painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installations, videos, and performances. A precocious talent â his work was included in the seminal âFreestyleâ exhibition in New York in 2001 â Johnson received the High Museum of Artâs David C. Driskell Prize, which honors contributions in the field of African American art.

The Belgian-made enamel sign is available through a raffle and will be made in a maximum edition of 250. A signed certificate will be added.

The Threshold, 2023 by Monster Chetwynd
Monster Chetwyndâs new limited-edition artwork, The Threshold, accompanies her ambitious commission at Gloucester Road Tube station, Pond Life: Albertopolis and the Lily; a sculptural intervention, designed to span the 80-metre disused platform, and a new film Who named the Lily?, which celebrates and laments the complicated history of the Crystal Palace.
The Threshold is inspired by Chetwyndâs childhood expeditions to the Natural History Museum, where she would look in awe at the glass cases of hundreds of jewel-coloured taxidermied hummingbirds.
It also references Lewis Carrollâs Alice in Wonderland, specifically when Alice begins crying, and then as she shrinks is deluged by a flood of her own tears.
Chetwyndâs hand collaged, multi-layered artwork reflects on altered states and thresholds â whether at the museum or beyond.
