POLYTHEISM: The Hall of Fame Editions
This May, as part of Nick Smithâs pop-up exhibition âPolytheismâ, RHODES Editions are releasing a series of ten limited edition prints that will form the backbone of the exhibition.
These ten prints are known as the âHall of Fame Editionsâ.
The ten individual prints represent ten individual images of shoes, which over the course of the 20th/21st century have become permanently embedded in our cultural history that they now transcend time and are simply all encompassing.
Ranging from the 1920âs introduction of the Converse Chuck Taylor, through to the 60âs arrival of the Puma Suede & Adidas Superstar, taking in the 70âs via the Vans Slip-On, all the way to the 90âs and the Nike Air Max revolution. These are the shoes that we wore then, we wear now and that will be worn in the future.
Each piece, in Nick Smithâs signature pixelated style, is woven with Psalm inspired text, rewritten by the artist, radiating reverence and adoration for these esteemed shoes.
The fusion of religious inspired text with imagery of highly revered sneakers, challenges viewers to reflect on the nature of our devotion to what objects we hold in high regard.
This juxtaposition encourages exploration of the parallels between religious adoration and the near-spiritual loyalty many people have towards such objects; in this case iconic sneakers.
âBy utilising the highly emotive and familiar language of religious texts, I aim to emphasise the deep, almost worshipful connection people have with sneaker culture. The language of reverence and adoration, typically reserved for sacred scriptures, is applied to material possessions, creating a thought-provoking contrast that prompts viewers to question their values and priorities.â - Nick Smith
Purchasing:
Individual âHall of Fameâ editions are only available for purchase at the exhibition.
- Each âHall of Frameâ print is for sale at ÂŁ400 unframed
- Each print is an edition of 75, all hand-signed, numbered and dual stamped
- Prints purchased on the night will be available to be taken away
- Due to demand we are limiting 1 image per person. Multiple prints can be purchased allowing for sets or collections of your favourite images to be assembled
- For those unable to attend the show there will be an opportunity to purchase online once the exhibition closes. All information about when they will be made available online will be sent out via this mailing list (note: youâre already signed-up if youâre reading this!)
A minimum of 10 prints from each of the editions will be held back specially for online release.

For those wishing to collect the entire set, this can be done with the collectorsâ âPOLYTHEISM Box-Setâ
The box-set is being made available as limited edition of 30, featuring matching numbers of all 10 prints in a bespoke portfolio, plus one collectable bonus edition (only available as part of the box-set)

Seeing in Phosphene event!
This Wednesday you can join us for a 10 minute meditation session inspired by Jose Parlaâs creative process. Guided by Dora Kamau from Headspace, youâll be guided through visual animations, allowing you to dive beneath the surface of his print âSeeing in Phospheneâ. For those joining the first session of the day weâll also be giving away a signed copy of Jose Parlaâs book to one attendee.
If you miss out on the first one donât worry! The meditation session will be accessible from 17 May 14.00 UK time for 24hours in line with Jose Parlaâs print release.
